DRAWING INSPIRATION at The Cartoon Museum

DRAWING INSPIRATION at The Cartoon Museum!

London’s legendary Cartoon Museum is about to relaunch this summer, but before they do, we just might be able to take you on a sneak peek tour of this, frankly, incredible brand new custom-built space!

Before the museum moves in, before the books land on shelves, Art Model Collective models have a one-in-a-lifetime chance to take you behind the scenes of the incredibly exciting, fully customised immersive labyrinth of bright toon rooms come to life, which soon will be hosting the brilliant collection of this legendary museum.

With complimentary life drawing materials in your hands, AMC models will draw from the archives to evoke characters and poses, introducing you to the new incarnation of the Cartoon Museum, where they get to seriously play with evocative poses: smashing through the giant star of the entrance, cowering under the giant ink drips, or hovering in mysterious custom-lit alcoves.

Art Model Collective are crossing their fingers for future potential of hosting regular drop-in life drawing sessions here, in the convenience of Oxford Circus – please be a part of the feedback!

Tickets:
£15 in advance via Cartoon Museum

May Queens – Art Model Collective’s 3rd birthday life drawing celebration

This Mayday Art Model Collective will celebrate its third birthday… Wow! What a journey it’s been so far, and may long it last!

On this joyful milestone, we decided to bring back our first ever theme, “A Spring Clean For The May Queen”, titled after Led Zeppelin lyric from Stairway to Heaven.

Not only that, we’ve invited a fellow artist, organiser, and one of the most inspiring women we know – TATIANA – to be our gorgeous guest model!

On this Tuesday at Underdog Gallery we will crown our models as May Queens – and indeed we want to extend the invitation to all of the AMC models who have ever posed in our sessions to be our dear guests, and to join us at this session both as artists – and models if the mood takes them.

Join us for traditional pagan frolicking around a Maypole, treats, fantasy costumes, themed soundtrack and all the joy of spring!

“If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow
Don’t be alarmed now
It’s just a spring clean for the May queen”

Eros and Psyche: Valentine’s with Manko & Carla

AMC Valentine’s themes are usually quite dark and Noire, however this year AMC founders Carla and Manko decided to embrace the subject of classical romance!

The love story between Eros, the god of desire, and Psyche, the personification of the human soul, is probably one of the most wonderfully enduring in classical mythology, and has inspired museums-full of beautiful artwork through the centuries.

This tale, the epitome of love, will take place on stage at The Underdog Gallery, embodied by Carla and Manko during this life drawing session just two days before Valentine’s day.

Eros (or, as the Romans knew him, Cupid), son of Aphrodite was obsessed with love and desire, always depicted shooting arrows at people‘s hearts in order to make them fall in love. Manko can’t wait to create an androgynous version of this god god, seen as a powerful, yet mischievous angel.

Psyche (or anima), was the most beautiful woman on earth, personifying the purity of the human soul, learning to find eternal happiness whilst transcending passion and misfortune.
Psyche is human, often depicted with butterfly wings, symbolising the fleeting beauty of the human soul, and it’s a perfect role for Carla.

In this beautiful love story between Eros and Psyche, we see both the perseverance of Eros possessed by passion and the efforts of Psyche to overcome the many obstacles placed in front of her in order to experience the wonders of love.

Can you think of a more beautiful way to celebrate Valentine’s day? Because we can’t!

Drawing Tarot: Art Model Collective revisits the Tarot Deck

This January, Underdog Gallery opens the season with an art show from two Polish artists, fine art photographer Sylwia Makris and sculptor Tomasz Gornicki – called Tarot & Archetypes.

Tarot theme is very close to our hearts.

Coincidentally in 2017/8, we at Art Model Collective have been creating our own series of collaborative multi-model life drawing events with a musician Gene Serene.

What a perfect excuse, therefore, to bring the exhibition and life drawing together and revisit our favourite Tarot characters!

For our “Drawing Tarot” event, Carla and Manko will select their favourite characters to revisit, surrounded by pertinent and evocative curation of brilliant artwork on the gallery walls.

Art Model Collective have already recreated many Tarot cards with life music, guest models, sets, props and costumes. Our “Evoke Archetypes” event series featured Major Arcana characters like The Fool, Magician, High Priestess, The Devil, Tower, Lovers, Strength, Temperance, Chariot, World, Hermit, Emperor and more.

Which cards you’d like to see evoked on stage?

Join us on Tuesday 29 January, 7-9:3pm for some life drawing!

(Tarot & Archetypes exhibition opening: 25th January 6pm)

All levels welcome, join our friendly and social crowd of regulars!

Full bar, and themed soundtrack.
